From Corporate to Calling: The Journey Behind Taboo Talk Podcast

Belle Sisters:
Hi everyone, and welcome to Belle’s Beyond Podcast by Belle Sisters.
Today, I’m joined by someone truly special, Lady Charmaine. She’s a pastor, author, podcast producer, and the host of Taboo Talk. Welcome, Lady Charmaine.

Lady Charmaine:
Thank you so much. I’m grateful to be here.

Belle Sisters:
How are you doing today?

Lady Charmaine:
I’m doing well and truly thankful to be here. Thank you for having me.

Belle Sisters:
Let’s start at the beginning. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey, from corporate life to becoming an author and the host of Taboo Talk?

Lady Charmaine:
Of course. I started my career as a human resources executive, working in Fortune 50 companies and nonprofit organizations. While it looked successful on the outside, it was draining me on the inside. I knew deep down that it wasn’t what I was called to do.

In 2007, I stepped away from HR and began my own journey. The first thing I launched was a radio show called Taboo Talk on BlogTalkRadio. Around the same time, I published my first book, Zero Mathematics: The Science of Today.

By 2008, I transitioned from radio to podcasting and published several more books. Today, I’m the author of 11 books.

Belle Sisters:
Eleven books, wow.

Lady Charmaine:
Yes, eleven. My most recent book is Do I Look Bipolar? It tells my life story from birth to age 52, a journey of triumph over adversity. In the book, I also share 71 coping strategies that help me stay mentally, physically, and spiritually well. I included photos from before I was born all the way to adulthood so readers can truly see the journey.

If this book had existed when I was younger, I would have prayed for it. I searched for guidance back then, and there wasn’t much available. Now, I’m grateful to offer something that can help others live well.

Belle Sisters:
I really resonated with what you said about corporate life draining your soul. I was in corporate for about two and a half years myself, and while the pay was good, it was exhausting.

Lady Charmaine:
Exactly. The money might be good, but is it worth your soul?

Belle Sisters:
That’s the question. Leaving corporate and starting my own journey changed everything for me, so I’m glad you found your way out too.

Lady Charmaine:
All glory to God. I prayed, and He answered.

Belle Sisters:
How did Taboo Talk begin? How did you even know you wanted to do radio or podcasting?

Lady Charmaine:
Public speaking was always part of my life. In high school, I was the school announcer, speaking daily. Later, after college and HR, I prayed earnestly for God to show me a new path.

A friend named Deborah Coffer invited me to appear on her radio show, The Feminine Factor, to talk about my cable TV program and my journey. After that episode, she told me, “You should be doing radio.”

I co-hosted her show for six months until it went off air. When it ended, I was heartbroken. I prayed again, asking God to show me the way. One day, while praying under my covers—my secret place, I clearly felt God say, “Check your email. You will be on radio today.”

I checked my email and saw an invitation from BlogTalkRadio. I followed the instructions, and that same day, Taboo Talk was born.

Belle Sisters:
Wow. That’s powerful.

Lady Charmaine:
It truly was. It reminded me that God can make a way out of no way.

Belle Sisters:
Why the name Taboo Talk?

Lady Charmaine:
Because I wanted to address topics the Christian community often avoids. Silence around difficult subjects holds people back.

My very first topic was about desire and faith, how Christians navigate human emotions honestly. People needed a safe place for open, truthful dialogue. Over time, the show evolved. Today, guests share “21 Pearls of Wisdom” on topics that help people live a good life right now, even while waiting for their breakthrough.

Belle Sisters:
What season of life are you currently in, personally and professionally?

Lady Charmaine:
I’m in a season of growth and healing.

Personally, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure a few years ago. Through prayer, lifestyle changes, and medical confirmation, my blood pressure returned to normal. My doctors confirmed I no longer needed medication. I truly believe God healed me.

Professionally, I’m expanding Taboo Talk, bringing in guests from all walks of life to explore what having a good life really means.

Belle Sisters:
What mindset shift helped you continue growing your business?

Lady Charmaine:
Renewing my mind daily with the Word of God. Remembering that I’m a servant first. This is God’s work, I’m just the vessel.

Belle Sisters:
How do you deal with self-doubt?

Lady Charmaine:
Everyone has doubts. Anyone who says otherwise isn’t being honest. When doubt shows up, I remind myself: this is not my job, it’s God’s. I give it back to Him.

Belle Sisters:
Is there a scripture you rely on?

Lady Charmaine:
Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Belle Sisters:
How did becoming a founder change how you see yourself?

Lady Charmaine:
I felt honored. Creating Unlimited Help Incorporated and serving people through it has been one of my greatest blessings. Since 2000, God has sustained this work, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who supports it.

Belle Sisters:
That’s over 25 years, did you imagine this journey would last that long?

Lady Charmaine:
I had a vision board. Some things came later than expected, but God is faithful. He builds us before He builds through us.

Belle Sisters:
What advice would you give women who feel tired or discouraged?

Lady Charmaine:
First, celebrate that you started. Then, give the business back to God. When it becomes His, He gets involved.

Belle Sisters:
What should new entrepreneurs focus on first?

Lady Charmaine:
A clear vision, mission, and values. Without vision, you’ll lose direction.

Belle Sisters:
As we wrap up, what’s your final word for our listeners?

Lady Charmaine:
Love and like yourself. If you don’t, you can’t truly love anyone else. Let go of negative people, even family if necessary, and make space for the people God is sending to uplift you.

Belle Sisters:
Thank you so much, Lady Charmaine. This conversation was powerful, honest, and deeply inspiring.
